In a perfect world, we would all be morning people. Every night we would log eight hours of solid sleep and jump out of bed feeling prepared and motivated to seize the day.
In the real world, we’re up against the constant juggle of responsibilities and commitments that can stretch us thin and deplete our energy. Do you relate with the phrase “there’s not enough hours in the day?”
What would it look like to shift our mentality to the belief that there ARE enough hours, we just need to learn how to use them effectively and efficiently.
This is where having a consistent morning rituals can powerfully impact your day.
Here are 3 tips to kickstart your AM rituals.
1) Enjoy a Warm Beverage: It doesn’t need to have caffeine in it, though who doesn’t like a strong coffee in the morning? Whether your go-to drink is a long black, rooibos tea, or simply hot water and lemon, savour sipping it in the quiet of the morning. Make this time for yourself. 2) Write Out Goals & Priorities: What are your most important tasks of the day? Identify them and make sure to work on them when your mental sharpness is at its peak. When you start to work on them, silence all notifications on your phone and computer so you’re not bombarded with pings or feel the urge to check social media.
3) Meditate: We're sure you've heard about the benefits, but maybe it's still a daunting idea. Sitting in stillness for just 5-10 minutes a day can help reduce worry and anxiety while improving optimism and relaxation. Don’t worry about whether or not you are “doing it right”. Just take a seat and focus on your breathing. If you find your mind starting to wander to a to-do list or future meeting, gently bring your attention back to the breath.
